This is a transparent, colorless substance that produces a strong, acrid odor. Usually, nitric acid is found in concentrations of about 68%, but it can also be produced in much higher doses. Above 85%, it is considered fuming, meaning that its corrosive capabilities are much more defined. It can emit a strong vapor, and it is toxic to humans. The primary purpose of nitric acid is to make fertilizer. This is done by combining it with ammonia to produce ammonium nitrate. In higher concentrations, it could also be utilized the production of certain explosive, as well as some organic compounds. Nitric acid may also be found in rocket fuel or as a nylon precursor.
